Who we are

Activate Perth is a not–for–profit association dedicated to truly making Perth an exciting, artistic and world class city. We want our city to be one of sustainable, vibrant and liveable spaces driven by active, diverse and engaged communities. Since 2017, we’ve been connecting retailers, landlords, artists, people and spaces to reactivate our city centre and make a powerful difference to the vibrancy, vitality and economic prosperity of Perth.

Our Vision 

We are catalysts for change. We want to help Perth honour its past and become a city for the future – a vibrant place where everyone wants to belong.

We see Perth transforming into a city of distinct neighbourhoods – East Perth as a home for creative pursuits, Northbridge as a centre for entertainment and West Perth as an eco hub. We’re driving that change and, with the help of our crusading volunteers, making our city precincts into welcoming and enjoyable places for people to live, work and play.

Your Mission

Our Crusaders are a diverse community looking to make a difference in their city. You might be a budding architect, a retail whiz, a marketing guru or ace people wrangler. Whatever your talents, skills and interests, we want you to get active!

By signing up as a crusader you can take part in activities, initiatives, events and projects that will help make Perth more sociable, engaging and memorable.

What is a Crusader Charter?

Our charter is designed to help volunteers understand how they can get involved in our mission, how Activate Perth can support them and what we expect from them. 

Crusading Principles

1. Crusading is a matter of choice.

Our Crusaders are unpaid volunteers who want to play a meaningful and positive role in their local community. Volunteering is an activity performed only for not–for–profit organisations such as Activate Perth and does not replace or threaten the job security of paid workers. Some of the ways crusaders can choose to help Activate Perth include supporting our #FillThisSpace program or assisting at our events and activities. Crusaders can always say no if they can’t commit to a task.

2. Crusaders are change makers.

Crusaders are ready to make our city the vibrant place we know it can be. They’re keen to get active in a range of initiatives, events and enterprises that will help drive that change. They’re excited by new ideas and possibilities. They’re not waiting for someone else to change the world – they’re doing it themselves!

3. Crusaders cooperate.

Our Crusaders include people from all walks of life – established professionals, emerging talents, students and retirees, sharing a common mission to create vibrant and exciting spaces, they collaborate as a community and for the community.

4. Crusaders connect.

Our Crusaders help bring people together for social events that will open up opportunities for others to join our mission and make change happen. The more of us there are, the more we can do.

5. Crusaders lead.

Crusaders are Activate Perth’s ambassadors in the community. As such, they must role model the values, behaviour and standards outlined in our volunteer code of conduct – and be willing to undertake training and supervision. They will be positive and energetic influences in their community and help build the connections, tolerance and enthusiasm that will drive the transformation of our city centre. All Crusaders will be provided with an induction to their volunteering.

6. Crusaders are non–political.

Activate Perth is advocating for our city, not for any political party. We are independent of state and local government, but open to cooperation with anyone who shares our goals and values. Our Crusaders work to improve our communities, not for their own political gain.
