Car Park Jazz
It all began over coffee with Dr Mace Francis, artistic director, WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO).
Dr Mace Francis’s thesis involved research on the acoustics of unusual venues. One of those was the Regal Place Car Park in East Perth.
Before we knew it, there were 150 plus people relaxing with their neighbours to the dulcet tones of a WAYJO quintet on level 4 of the car park. And they proved that Mace was right about the fantastic acoustics.
We are grateful to the gazillion people it took to make it happen including the East Perth Community Group, Lyn Schwan, Chook Raffle Director, Stuart Moran, Richard and Lyn Stevens and all on the Car Park Jazz Working Group, Rodney Ashton and Louise Mayberry, City of Perth, and Justin Marshman from Girls School Cinema.
Other local businesses also chipped in so chookas to LJ Hooker East Perth, East Perth IGA, Artistic Visions, Wassup Dog, Blackbird Restaurant, 777 Pharmacy, Five 6 Eight Bar and Dominos.
Activate Perth Chair, Di Bain drove a left-hand drive lime green convertible in the rain to deliver our very funky "hazardous vehicle risk mitigation strategy."
Most of all thank you to those who came out on a chilly Spring evening to support an event that aimed to showcase the neighbourhood in a surprising way; or should that be WAYJO?
